Win A LeapFrog Tag! |
Meet your new best friend! LeapFrog has come up with a new handheld learn-to-read technology that interacts directly with real books. The Tag Reading System uses a pen-based reader (pictured) to provide audio for the stories, as well as the fun-filled games and activities spread throughout the pages. By simply touching the highly responsive Tag reader anywhere on any page of a Tag book, children can bring their favorite stories to life. Our Junior Ed gave our one to her younger brother Benn who is 7 to have a go. We recently took Benn camping and he took the book, tag and some earphones in his little back pack (we didn't have much room to pack big toys), it kept him quiet for ages whilst we set up the tent etc and he was able to read through his book in the evening before bed without disturbing anybody. Very impressive!
Benn says: "I think the Tag is really good, the games to play are fun and also you get to see what each character is saying. I think it is cool."
On the Kids Only page of What's On 4 School Kids who does Beth our Junior ed interview?

10 Ideas for Parents by Alan Wilson, Founder of Develop Your Child CIC www.developyourchild.com
It takes time and commitment to make any change, and in a parenting relationship it can be even more challenging - here are 10 ideas to help you along. 1) Admit you don't know everything and give an example of a wrong decision you made with them and discuss it. 2) Tell them you love and trust them and hug them frequently. 3) Tell them and show them with your actions that you respect them. 4) Ask their views and advice on a simple challenge in your relationship and progress into more sensitive issues that have more impact on your relationship. 5) Allocate regular quality time to discuss what support they need in school/college/work/anything else. 6) Ask them what is the most important thing you could do to improve the relationship and do it. 7) Ask what everyone in the relationship could do to improve it and discuss the necessary strategies to be successful. Also consider when, where and how this would be most suitable. 8) Ask them if they are happy in their life and in what areas. 9) Ask them if there are any areas they are unhappy with and help them with a strategy to overcome it. 10) A very important action - celebrate each step of achievement to reinforce their success.
Good luck in all you are doing to develop your child. Check out the free resources, latest products and services to build self-esteem and confidence in your children at www.developyourchild.com |

| Beth Has A Go! |
This month I had a go at Climbing. When I first got strapped into the harness I was very nervous, but the guy instructing me was very friendly and explained exactly what I should do. On the first two goes I found it very hard, my arms did not seem to be strong enough, but after putting in all the effort I could I reached the top. It was great fun, I was amazed how high I could get. You really should have a go!
If you want to try climbing What's On 4 School Kids have joined forces with Revolution Climbing Centre to bring you a very special offer. Revolution Climbing Centre is one of Kent's premiere climbing venues catering for climbers of all levels from beginners to experts.
Their trained friendly instructors are on hand to show the climber a good time or to teach to the level of "competent climber". The centre is ideal for individuals, groups, parties and team building exercises. Climbing is a great sport for everyone and is a fun and thorough work out for all! Lessons can be arranged with instructors as well as quick tasters if you just fancy having a go. (Parental Consent forms for under 16's must be filled out before admission).
All equipment is available for hire from the climbing shop which also stocks a wide range of climbing equipment for both indoors and out. Sam the guy who is in charge has been climbing on and off for almost a decade and taking it up seriously in the last four years. Having experience with taking groups both indoors and outdoors and a 'inside knowledge' to what climbers at Revolution want To contact Sam for booking within the centre email him at sam@revolutionskatepark.co.uk
A 10% discount is available to anyone who comes to the centre with a print out of this newsletter. The discount is available on bouldering and trial packages only.

| Watch Out For The All New SCI-FI Whizz Watches Wheeling Their Way Into Stores This September!
|
| What a great new toy our testers have been playing with this month! When a remote control toy is ingeniously combined with a digital watch, the result is the all new Whizz Watch from Wesco. Mini remote control characters can be raced around the kitchen table, desk or floor, controlled by a matching LCD watch. The watches feature movie favourite R2D2 from Star Wars and a dreaded Dalek from Dr Who - the popular sci-fi characters and unique concept of Whizz Watch make it a must have gadget for 2008.
The funky digital watch contains infrared controls and the miniature vehicle clips onto the watch strap when not in use, making it easily portable. Just unclip the vehicle, switch on and off you whizz. The cool and chunky watch has been designed to match each character, but can also be worn just as an everyday watch.
With forward and backward functionality, Whizz Watches are great to play with either alone or in 'battle' with friends. Whizz Watches are functional and portable, but above all 'wheelly' cool.
All Whizz Watches are available online at Amazon. Star Wars R2D2 and the Dr Who Dalek are also available from Argos, Express Gifts,Harrods and Play.com. Whizz Watches are suitable for children 4+ priced at around £14.99.

ACAD-PAD comes out top of the set again - with a new class member! |
The ACAD-PAD, spawned two years ago from the Dodo Pad (Britain's best-loved desk diary for more than 40 years), continues to score top marks by becoming one of the most highly sought after academic diaries available. Loved by students, scholars and absent-minded professors, or indeed anyone whose life revolves around the academic calendar, this year's new 2008/09 diary will not disappoint. And with shiny shoes and a smart new tie, the WALL ACAD-PAD is ready for its first day at school. Produced in response to popular demand, this brand new wall-hanging format has all the handiness of its desk diary sibling, but in a helpful hang-up calendar format.
The ACAD-PAD follows the same unique, entertaining and indeed award-winning Dodo Pad formula, but with an academic year slant. For the first time, to include those North of the Border, it starts the 'new year' in August rather than September, providing an extra few weeks of order.
Both the ACAD-PAD and WALL ACAD-PAD are available from www.dodopad.com, by phone from the mail order hotline 0845 053 1166, or from all good academic bookstores. Beth and her friends tried out the Acad Pad and Dodo Pad and thought it was great, funny and useful at the same time. "It's a very good way of keeping organised but is fun at the same time". | |
