How To Survive The Summer Holidays |
Ok so summer holidays for me when I was a kid were all about lazy days and late nights, and the chance to set up a stall in front of my house selling cups of juice to children that just happened to be playing out, I had a great deal of success!
But I can't deny that now I have my own kids the summer hols are hard. "I'm bored" is something I hear on a regular basis.
I have gathered a few hints and tips to prevent your little darlings from getting bored and to help you (I hope) from getting stressed, with not a crispy cake in sight.
1) Relax and take it easy. After the first few "I'm bored" comments your kids will actually learn to use their imagination, play along and have fun, it's amazing how much you laugh when the pretend pirates are chasing you, or the time machine made out of garden chairs and bikes takes you to the land of dinosaurs.
2)If the weather is good go bike riding. Take an unusual route for added adventure, although I have learnt from experience that through the local corn field was probably not the best idea, but we look back and laugh.
3)Have friends to play, children will miss their school friends over the holidays so give them the opportunity to have friends round, if the thought of having children running through the house is too much for you to cope with then arrange to meet other mums at the park or swimming pool.
4)Let the older ones be themselves, they have had pressure to conform the whole school year, it's time to recognize that they probably will not want a teddy bears picnic with you in the garden and would rather do their own thing. As long as you know where they are going, who with and what time they will be back it is important that they have this freedom, there is always the mobile phone if you need them.
5)Don't forget to check out What's On 4 School Kids for activities, we are here to help!!

Fancy France? |
Country Kids offers a rare combination of stylish, luxurious accommodation and a totally family-focused approach. It has been created by parents, for parents and offers total family rejuvenation. Our aim is for parents to feel relaxed, indulged and, most importantly, to re-discover the joys of family life away from the stresses and strains of their day to day existence. Here, on our beautiful country estate amongst the vineyards and olive groves of Southern France, we're confident that we've created a "Paradise for Kids" and "Heaven for Parents" - the fact that 70% of our guests rebook shows most people agree! Our recipe for heaven/paradise includes five-star, luxury accommodation, a mix of on and off site activities for adults and older kids, unlimited use of our fully regulated crèche for under 5s, two nights babysitting for parental bonding purposes, daily cleaning for guaranteed relaxation, and a sprinkling of extras such as two catered meals a week and a self-serve bar and shop offering fresh baked breakfast goodies, homemade 'ready' meals, great regional wines and local farm produced delicacies. These are some of the reasons why so many of our guests rebook! Including Sam Willoughby, the owner of WO4SK, who has been twice with a third visit booked for 2009!
